Ruth: Welcome to the blog, Kimberly. Tell us about K Grass Business Consulting.
Kimberly: We are a virtual assistance company that specializes in assisting coaches, speakers and real estate professionals. We have had clients in a wide array of industries and all over the United States, including locally in New Hampshire and the New England area. We offer social media and internet marketing, WordPress web design, admin support, and many other services. We have recently added bookkeeping to our list of services.
Ruth: How did you get started? What led both you and Jason to consider virtual professions?
Kimberly: Jason and I had worked corporate careers for many years. We would talk about how we could improve efficiency and utilize our skills more efficiently if we went into business together. So after putting a lot of time and thought into it, we opened K Grass Business Consulting five years ago. We are able to help entrepreneurs and small business owners to increase their efficiency and partner in expanding their businesses.
Ruth: It’s an exceptional quality for spouses to be business partners. Along the way have you had a mentor or sponsor to support, guide, encourage and open doors for you?
Kimberly: I have hired business coaches over the years to help guide us in our business. I have also been an active volunteer in the International Virtual Assistants Association for several years. I truly believe this has helped me to grow as a Virtual Assistant, business owner and individual. I am currently the Director of Research and Development for the IVAA and this is such an essential part to my business moving forward. I have wonderful colleagues to serve with.
Ruth: If you could share a nugget of insight or bit of advice for someone considering a virtual career such as yours what would that be?
Kimberly: It is important to emphasize that when someone starts out in a virtual career it is important to not try to do it alone. Having a mentor, a person to bounce ideas off of, and a lot of support are key. Like any business it can be an uphill battle at first, but the more you learn and work hard, the easier it gets. It is a rewarding career that Jason and I love and I truly believe we could not have done without the support of each other and our family and friends.
Ruth: Enough can’t be said about having a support system especially in the beginning when doubt starts to creep in. Do you have any advice for someone seeking a virtual professional such as yourself?
Kimberly: When looking for a virtual professional it is important to research about the individual and the company. With the internet it is easy to find out a lot of information. You can look at their website, the testimonials they have, the social networks they belong to, and much more. When I talk with prospective clients I offer them references to call, samples of my work, and emphasize the importance of communication in a virtual relationship. This is so crucial. Hiring a virtual professional is an important component to a business owner and they must make sure it is a good fit. I look at it in this way I am partnering with my clients to ensure that their businesses are successful and reach their full potential.
Ruth: All great tips! It’s been so good talking with you, Kimberly. Thank you.
